TES4: Oblivion & the FBomb

A few weeks ago, it was discovered by Oblivion players that the Shivering Isles expansion pack contained a critical bug. I saw on GameSpot today a news item saying that it caused the game to "crash," which is true, but it doesn't fully describe the magnitude of the problem. It is far more than a simple CTD.

The "FBomb," or Shivering Isles FormID bug, will destroy your saves in a few score of hours. It is caused by six Golden Saint daedra in the Mania palace that constantly generate FormIDs through the course of their patrol routes, eventually using up all possible FormIDs and preventing items from appearing in the game. There is an official patch for this, released shamefully after a pair of player-created solutions.

The new patch is, to say the very least, essential. The patch can be found on the BethSoft website, and the player solutions on TESsource.net and in the Wrye Bash site. UESP also has excellent information on the matter and links.

The 360 is affected as well, so if you have Live and Shivering Isles, DL the patch immediately.

Wow, its a shame that just playing a good game will require work even after purchace.

Anybody here play shivering Isles? That expansion plus all the others would make installing oblivion worthwhile again.

Hmmm, I saw it at Target and thought about it, but I decided not to get it because I just get plain bored with everything in Oblivion after playing Morrowind.

Shame shame on Bethesda, IMO they're slowly going down. Hopefully they'll listen more to the Elder Scrolls community and make TES V much better.

I'm bored for now with The Elder Scrolls unitil 5 comes out. But yeah, thats a shame.

Shivering Isles is actually exceptionally fun once you get the catastrophic bug fixed. But then, I've been hoping for something Sheogorath-themed since Morrowind. The modding community has a way of fixing most of the few faults TES4 has..."Close shut the flaws of Oblivion," as one modder said.
